You are thinking about buying a gaming laptop and you are completely shocked at how low the battery life is on the laptops that you are looking at. If you have a gaming laptop already and you are trying to figure out why your battery life is so low as compared to laptops you've used in the past the quick answer to this question is that the gaming laptops have more powerful components that are designed to give you more powerful computing it's as simple as that bigger processor with more cores clocked at a higher speed.

You're going to be pulling a lot more power out of the battery than you would in a normal laptop that has an integrated graphics solution or an APU.
In general, you're going to be using way more power in a gaming laptop in your normal computing activities, and also think about the fact that you bought the gaming laptop for gaming. So you're probably going to be gaming for long periods of time and when your game you're going to be putting a lot of load onto both the Processor and the GPU in your system. So you've got more powerful components that have a higher power draw and you're putting more load on those components by gaming all the time or basically just using your computer the way you wanted to use it.

So the first thing I want to talk about is how laptop battery capacity is marketed.
Now if you've been
shopping for a laptop or you've recently shopped or done a lot of research on
them.
You normally see the
laptop's battery performance marketed as battery hours and usually, they'll say that
it's rated for a certain amount of hours with mixed-use or normal use or whatever
it is or maybe they give you some kind of a benchmark, or maybe it's watching
video on YouTube browsing the internet whatever it is. They'll give you an estimated
battery life based on the normal use of the laptop. Typically you'll see this marketed
very strongly in laptops where battery life is a core feature.
You know your more
mainstream laptops, your business laptops, they're going to really put an
emphasis on that extra battery life because they know that their users are
taking their laptops on the go and may need to use that battery life as long as
possible.
The gaming laptops you don't normally see battery life advertised in fact normally. It's pretty well non-existent from the marketing of the gaming laptop because they know that it's horrible. You may see them advertised at less than an hour or two hours for the battery rating on these gaming laptops under normal use or when gaming. They may advertise it so that's a big difference um whereas a mainstream laptop. You could actually see 5, 10, or more hours advertised.
The first one I chose is hp 15.6 inch touchscreen laptop. There's no specific model number. It has an intel core i5 12gigabytes of ram, a 256 gigabyte solid-state drive, and a touch screen.
So the first thing I want to point out on the first laptop is the actual specifications of the laptop. The processor is an i5 1035 g1. That particular processor carries 80 tdp of 15 watts. The tdp is the thermal design power and that represents the average power in watts. The processor will dissipate when operating at base frequency. When all core is active under an intel defined high complexity workload. Basically, it's how many watts the processor is going to pull under normal use.
So this particular
processor here will pull 15 watts and this particular laptop does not have a
discrete graphics card. In fact, it has intel uhd ultra high definition graphics
integrated right. So basically just an integrated graphics solution you're not
gonna be playing many games on this thing. So basically between the processor and
the GPU you've got 15 watts of tdp.
Now obviously there are other things there's the screen and the mouse and all that but for all intents
and purposes, the most power hungry components of your laptop are the CPU and
the GPU.
The second one is the Alienware m15 r3 15.6 inch gaming laptop. This beast has an intel core i7 16gigabytes of memory. It has an RTX 2070 super a 512 gigabyte solid state drive and a 1080p monitor with a whopping 300 hertz refresh rate.
The Alienware laptop has a
processor i710 750h. This particular processor has a tdp of 45 watts. So we're
already triple the power of our mainstream laptop with just the CPU of this
particular gaming laptop. But this gaming laptop also has a discrete graphics
card and that's the RTX 2070 super and this is the mobile version.
